strategic spaghetti
Let’s set the record straight, when it comes to showing up on social media…
1: there are no more rules
I get it, it’s hard to know what the fuck to do these days, both online + in events, trends, no trends, face, faceless, subtitles, original audio, heavy editing, storytelling, under 7 seconds, employee ambassadors, separate accounts, hire a social media person or do it yourself?!
Jesus, that was exhausting just typing it all out.
Great news, you don’t have to do anything, anymore. Yes, you could eaaaasily sort the last 10/15 years of content into chapters, themes and trends. But we are finally at a place where, authenticity, is regarded higher than any other ‘content pillar’ or trend…thank god for that.
2: strategic spaghetti
No-one wants to be scrubbing food off the wall for weeks, but they also don’t want the spaghetti to just sit there and get cold before anyone even tries it. You worked hard on that dish, but which wall? how? why?
When your dish is authentic, your content will find your people.
If you keep trying to copy Kara-from-next-doors-recipe, likelihood is, you’ll miss a trick and burn the sauce, not to mention, it wont feel good doing it, because you’re cooking from a desperate misalignment, and that isn’t who you are. Also, Kara uses tinned tomatoes anyway, which is not your vibe.
So please, use your own damn recipe, cook up a storm, add that dash of smoked paprika you never tell anyone about, and watch how your paprika peeps pop outta the woodwork, when you throw your spaghetti at them.
Sorry, I got a lil carried away with this metaphor, but your social media needs to be oozing with authenticity, and that’s really hard to fake, not to mention, we -the people looking at your content- can smell a fake within seconds…just as quickly as we can smell joy + realness when you finally serve that content up to the algorithmic gods.
Authentic content still needs some planning and structure, like any good recipe…but either way, you gotta throw it.
3: serve seconds, even thirds.
When people like the taste of your dish, sorry I’ll stop…content, their interest is peaked+ they want to see if you have more like it.
So, before you post or plan this weeks content remember to ask yourself; "could this piece of content be made into a series of a few reels, or a 2-parter with a sneaky little “stick around to see how it turned out”?
It’s nothing new, but it ticks a few boxes for the current social media landscape;
a) allows you to repurpose one video into 2/3 pieces of content
b) will mean shorter more digestible videos since you’re not trying to post a 10min block video
c) it let’s your audience know that you are consistent and someone they can rely on
d) it’s giving - storytelling & ‘lore’ (this quarters content buzzword), which we want to see more of over the 4 second dopamine-mining / draining videos that only want eyeballs not actual humans to consume their content, think old school TV series vibes, cozy, sloooow.
Anyway I wanna keep these blogs as digestable as possible, so I’ll end here, also because my pasta is about to over-boil.
homework:
Go put on your favourite song and dance ridiculously, to remember who you are at your most authentic core. Why did you started your business or brand or job? What or who are you trying to help? Phone on DND, dance, let it come to you, then jot it down + see what authentic thoughts and ideas come out.
